If there is one high street label I have been in a steady relationship with since my late teens, it would be Australian label Witchery.
As with any relationship we have had our ups and downs but with their recent collections this past year … well I guess we have found our way back to one another. As they say, if it is meant to be then it is meant to be.
From a consumer’s perspective it appears the brand is going in a new creative direction as their line appears more simplified in terms of design and this is something that makes my inner minimalist child so very happy. The past few months I have found myself stalking their online store from the comforts of my bedroom and it was difficult to select just one thing to update my wardrobe.
With any purchase I constantly find myself contemplating if the item in question is a want or need and it can be a challenge to be honest with myself at times. With my eyes feasting on their cream wrap maxi dress I decided having recently donated a handful of dresses in my wardrobe that no longer matched my personal style, that in this case the dress was a need.
Now as you can see I have been referring to the dress as a maxi but in actual fact it was listed as a midi dress. As all short girls know in our petite world there is no such thing as midi unless we tailor the item ourselves. However, having kept the dress at its original length I am leaning towards not making the big chop… just yet.
Speaking of footwear if the dress is sitting at ankle length the boots naturally add height but I would recommend steering clear of a closed in boot as it will add a heaviness to the overall look. An open toe boot breaks up the column of colour and by doing so gives the impression of the wearer being taller. Should the skirt sit mid length on you than this rule doesn’t necessarily apply and you could create a relaxed overall look with the addition of a white sneaker.
There are many aspects to this dress that I am loving but as a girl who is always looking to the future I can envision the possibilities of this dress when I feel like creating something new. The chop to midi length will come one day and with it a professional colour change to black. Because with any relationship remember spicing things up is always a good idea.
